I am high on sugar and Jesus so hopefully I will be able to organize my thoughts enough to share them with you.
Barry & I were asked last night at 9:00 if we would be willing to work an Evangelical Booth at the Utah State Fair today. I am back in my living room now, exactly 24 hours after committing to serve at the fair, and I am blown away by God! Again!!!
From the moment we said that we would go, I started praying that God would bring people to us that had open hearts and questioning minds. I prayed that God would divinely send the exact people we were to speak to. I asked for as many as He would allow but I pleaded for at least two.
Barry & I both committed to be there which meant the Littles came too. They were not permitted to be in the booth so I took them around the fair to start. They’d never been to a fair before. We watched lumberjacks and ate cotton candy. We saw livestock and participated in a magic show. We ate a funnel cake and walked through an FFA presentation. Drank lemonade and listened to a singing competition. The kids had a great time and possibly gained a cavity or two. Then, I headed back to the booth and traded places with Barry. He got the shift that involved riding rides and playing games after I’d already gotten them all jacked up on sugar. (I am an evil genius!)
Literally 5 minutes after I took my spot in the booth, a young COUPLE walked up. Now, most people you try to engage will either politely say “No, thank you” or they will take a free DVD and walk on. There are also the occasional people that yell at you, curse or say negative things about faith in general but most people just want to keep walking by.
The couple that stopped were not like any of those people. They wanted to talk! The girl, Jessica, was raised LDS and is still an active member. She is having some doubts though and really wanted to be clear why we claimed that Christianity was different from Mormonism. The guy, Jaden, was a convert to the church about 3 years ago. He was still very confused on what the LDS actually teach and believe. He was very hesitant to believe that the Bible had been translated correctly and thought because of that, it couldn’t be trusted. We spoke back and forth about so many different things. I was able to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them both and to draw some clear distinctions between The Book of Mormon and The Bible. They had so many questions and were confused on many different issues but, Praise Jesus, scriptures to answer their questions kept flooding into my mind. Isn’t He just so good like that?!?
Before they left, I gave them the Unveiling Grace DVD that Adam’s Road produced and a DVD called The Bible vs. Joseph Smith. They agreed to watch both. I also encouraged them to read the New Testament for themselves. I asked them to read the words with a childlike desire for knowledge and ask God to show them the truth. I gave them our business card and told them that if they wanted to argue or ask questions or hanging out and eat BBQ, they could call me anytime! We talked for more than an hour and a half! The time flew by. This couple spent more than 90 minutes of their time at the fair asking about Jesus. A couple…TWO people.
To say that I am blown away by the specific care God gives to us would be such a gross understatement. I am so thankful that God is allowing us a front row seat to this amazing work He is doing!
Please pray for Jessica and Jaden!!!
If you would like to watch the two DVD’s I mentioned, you can! Here are the links to watch them online. You will be glad you did!
