It has been a long time since we updated the blog which means I won’t get to tell you everything I’d like to. I will try to include as much information as I can without being too wordy.
Our last month in Florida was wonderful. We were able to spend some very precious time with the people we love. We had parties, play dates, beach trips and family dinners. All made us feel very special and so thankful for the people we have in our lives.
We left Florida July 29th.
Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah.
2500+ miles later, we arrived in Ogden on August 2nd. The drive went very well. We had no issues at all.
We’ve heard a few questions over and over again so I thought I would answer them here.
#1 – Do we have a place to live? We do…for a month. We are staying in a vacation rental home for the month of August. Since it is not ski season, the house was affordable. We are currently looking for a home to rent for a couple of years. We have a renter in our Florida home for at least two years. After we are able to sell our home there, we will buy a home here.
#2 – Did we get all the financial support we need? No. We have received some support, but not enough to fully support us. Barry is looking for a couple of part time jobs that will help to fill in the gap financially until the support is enough to work for the ministry full time. Until God provides that support, Barry will work part time for the ministry and part time for a couple of secular jobs. I will be homeschooling the Littles and working part time for the ministry.
#3 – Do we have a church here that we are attending? We have a couple of churches that we had planned to visit after listening to sermons online. Our first visit was to a church called Washington Heights and if the Littles get a say, we won’t be visiting any other churches at all. I am not sure what we will do just yet, but we are so glad that the kids enjoyed the church. Especially since the night before, Reagan was crying because she didn’t want to try any church except First Baptist Church of Windermere.
#4 – How long will we be in Utah? When are we moving back to Florida? We do not plan to move back at all. God could certainly tell us to go somewhere else but at this point we believe He wants us here and until He tells us differently, we plan to stay.
Since we’ve been here, we have been working to get ourselves settled. Barry finding a couple of jobs and us finding a home to rent are really our top priorities along with working for UPFC. (www.upfc.org)
Barry was able to take a mission team to a Mormon ward on Sunday. They sat through the sacrament meeting (kind of like a church service) and then invited some Mormons back to the blue house (ministry house) for dinner on Monday night. A few of them came! Two of them had been to dinner a few weeks before when they were invited by another mission team at the blue house. Praise God! We are praying to build relationships with these people and continue to share the gospel as we love on them.
One more story before I wrap it up – The mission team that is here right now is from Boise, Idaho. They prayed on Saturday before heading into Temple Square for God to reveal to them who they were supposed to share the gospel with. During their prayer, several different people felt like God was telling them something. One said he heard the name Derrick. Another believed God was telling him to stay on the sidewalk. Their youth pastor said God told him that the people he would find would be homosexual and be dealing with rejection issues from the LDS church. The youth pastor told us that they had never received such specific instruction, but they wrote all of those things down on a paper and headed into Salt Lake City. They walked the sidewalks for quite a while and didn’t find anyone. Finally, the youth pastor saw two men on the sidewalk ahead and he heard God tell him that these were the guys. He approached them and asked their names. Tyler and Derrick! The youth pastor told them “I want you to know that God is after you.” They shared with them their sheet of paper and they guys told them that they certainly had their attention. Turns out that they were a gay couple and they were experiencing major rejection from their LDS families. WOW, right?!?!?!? The mission team invited them to the dinner at the blue house on Monday night. Derrick had to work, but Tyler came!
Please pray for Tyler and Derrick.
Please pray for the other Mormons that joined our group last night for dinner.
Please pray for us to find a home to rent.
Please pray for our financial support.
Please pray for us as we look for a new church family.
